2001: A Floyd Odyssey

The only problem with this synch is. Finding a copy of "Ummagumma" on cassette tape. The original Ummagumma was a double LP released in 1969. You can also find it on CD. One disc has live songs on it, and the other disc was done in the studio. The cassette tape used to make this sync is a re-release of the studio version, that came out in 1973. It's not available on CD. That's why it's hard to find. The re-release version has the songs in a different order than the original. It is in this order in which the songs synch with the movie. What's the purpose of re-releasing an album with the songs in a different order? That's why it's believed this is the hidden soundtrack for 2001:'s "The Dawn Of Man".

What You Will See:

The studio version of "Ummagumma" has a few lyrics in it. It is mostly all music, which makes for a perfect score of the movie. The music is emotional, and has alot of feeling to it, which coincides with the movie perfectly. The synch begins with the song "Several Species Of Small Furry Animals.....", That's what you see in the movie. The animal sounds synch up with the furry animals. Sysyphus: part I, is beautiful music. It's played when the apes are together with the family going to sleep. Sysyphus: part II is played when the apes awake to discover the black monolith. When the apes go crazy, so does the music. The crashing keys of the piano synch with the apes trying to touch the monolith. Sysyphus: part III is when an ape is surounded by broken bones, and looks puzzled. The music has the same effect. Drums & piano keys tinkling offbeat. When the ape use's the bone like a weapon, banging it on the ground. The drums start banging also. During this song you hear animal sounds & yells which synch with the ape. Sysyphus: IV is when the apes ambush another tribe of apes with their bones. The transition from this song to the next is unbelievable. When the ape throws the bone in the air, and the bone morphs into a spaceship. Its exactly at that point when the song "The Grand Vizier's Garden Party" begins. And this song is space sounding. You have great visuals of outer space during part I. During part II Dr. Floyd makes a phone call to his daughter. At that point you hear morse code. This song is mostly drums, and it picks up to an entertaining beat. After part III is when Dr. Floyd exit's. "Astronomy Domine" space lyrics go with what you are seeing. The Narrow Way part I, is where there's not much synching going on. But you do hear space sounds during the song. Part II synchs well with visuals of the lunar surface & spaceship. Part III the lyrics & music go well, as it builds up to the point where Dr. Floyd touches the black monolith on the moon. In the begining of "Grantchester Meadows" you hear birds & bees buzzing. At that point Dr. Floyd and crew put their hands over their ears. The first half of the song & lyrics go well with the movie.

And for the grand finale. Fast forward the movie to "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite" and enjoy the mind-blowing climatic ending of the film synced to the song "Echos".This was featured on the Floyd sync "Dark Side Of The Rainbow".

What You Will See:

The song "Shine on You crazy Diamond" starts off slow, and builds up to the part when Jodie is wisked away to another planet. The lyrics go perfect with this part of the movie. If you have seen the movie before, then you will understand whats going on for the next song. "Wish You Were Here" The transaction between the two songs during the movie is something to see. Jodie floats down to the "fish bowl" planet. The lyrics to this song go very well also. When you hear the line "heroes for ghosts" Her fathers ghost appears. Her father keeps saying "How I wish you were here". "We're just two lost souls, swimming in a fish bowl" thats what the planet looks like, as they stand there by the ocean. "Running over the same old ground" just when you hear the word "ground" the father is running his hand through the sand on the beach. This whole synch is a trip. The album came out way before the movie did. And yet, it looks like a music video. Like the director filmed the last part of the movie to go with those two songs off "A Collection of Great Dance Songs"
